Homemade Blueberry Bagels

  • Author: Olivia McKenney
  • Total Time: 1 hour 45 minutes
  • Yield: 8 bagels

Description

Soft, chewy homemade blueberry bagels bursting with juicy berries and lightly sweet flavor make the perfect quick breakfast or easy snack. These bakery-style bagels have a golden crust and a tender interior, making them one of the best breakfast ideas or food ideas for meal prep, brunch, or even a simple dinner option.

Ingredients

3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup warm water

2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

2 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup blueberries

1 tablespoon honey

Instructions

1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast, then let it sit until foamy.

2. Add flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.

3. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, then gently fold in blueberries.

4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled.

5. Divide dough, shape into balls, and form bagels by creating a hole in the center.

6. Boil bagels in water with honey for about 1 minute per side.

7. Transfer to a baking sheet and bake at 425°F (220°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Use fresh or frozen blueberries, but keep frozen ones cold to prevent bleeding.

Do not skip boiling, as it creates the classic chewy texture.

Avoid adding too many blueberries to keep the dough structure intact.
