Description

Ingredients

1 cup warm milk

2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast

1 tablespoon sugar

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 large egg

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (for dough)

3 tablespoons melted butter (for filling)

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (or 2 teaspoons dried)

1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese


Instructions

1. Combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.

2. In a stand mixer, combine flour, salt, egg, and yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.

3. Add softened butter and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5–7 minutes. Let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.

4. Mix melted butter, minced garlic, and parsley in a small bowl. Set aside.

5. Punch down the dough and roll into a large rectangle on a floured surface.

6. Spread garlic butter over the dough. Sprinkle evenly with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

7. Roll the dough into a log, then slice it lengthwise. Twist both halves together, cut sides facing up.

8. Transfer to a greased loaf pan and let rise 20–30 minutes.

9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes, until golden and baked through.

10. Cool slightly before slicing and serve warm.

Notes

Don’t skip the second rise—this ensures a fluffy, airy crumb.

Freshly shredded cheese melts better than pre-shredded varieties.

If using dried herbs, reduce the amount by half to avoid overpowering the flavor.
