Savory Harry Potter Food

Savory Harry Potter Food

  • Author: Olivia McKenney
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 8 mini pastries

Description

These golden, flaky pastries are a magical savory snack inspired by the world of Harry Potter. Filled with spiced meats, sautéed mushrooms, gooey cheese, and herbs, they’re perfect for themed parties, cozy dinners, or Halloween feasts. Crispy on the outside, hearty on the inside—pure Hogwarts charm in every bite.

Ingredients

1 package puff pastry sheets (2 sheets)

1 cup cooked ground sausage or beef

1/2 cup sautéed mushrooms

1/2 cup caramelized onions

3/4 cup shredded cheddar or Gruyère cheese

1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or 1/2 tsp dried)

1 teaspoon chopped rosemary

1 egg (for egg wash)

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: 1/2 cup chopped spinach, 1/4 cup mashed potatoes, 1 clove garlic (minced)

Instructions

1. Sauté onions and mushrooms in oil until softened and golden. Add cooked sausage or beef, season with herbs, salt, and pepper. Let mixture cool.

2. Roll out puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into circles using a cookie cutter or drinking glass. You’ll need two circles per pastry.

3. Place a spoonful of filling on half the circles. Top with shredded cheese. Cover with a second pastry circle and seal edges with your fingers or a fork.

4. Use a small knife to cut slits or magical symbols (like stars or lightning bolts) into the top of each pastry.

5. Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish. Place on parchment-lined baking sheet.

6. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes or until puffed and deeply golden.

7. Let cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

Make sure the filling is cool before assembling to avoid soggy pastry.

You can freeze assembled unbaked pastries for later; just bake directly from frozen.

Use mini house flags or pastry cutouts to label each with your favorite Hogwarts house.
