Description
This easy and flavorful sautéed mushrooms and onions recipe is the perfect companion for grilled meats, pasta dishes, or breakfast eggs. Rich with umami, kissed with sweetness, and spiked with garlic, it’s a versatile side you’ll make again and again.
Ingredients
16 oz mushrooms (Baby Bella or White Button)
1 large yellow or sweet onion
2 tablespoons butter, divided
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
1. Clean mushrooms with a damp paper towel and slice them evenly. Slice the onion into strips or half-moons and mince the garlic.
2. Heat a skillet over medium-high. Add 1 tablespoon butter and olive oil; let melt and shimmer.
3. Add onions and cook for 5–7 minutes until softened and golden.
4. Add mushrooms in a single layer. Let them brown without stirring for about 5 minutes, then stir and cook another 4–5 minutes.
5. Add garlic, salt, and pepper. Stir and cook for another 2 minutes.
6. Add the remaining butter and toss to coat. Garnish with parsley if using.
Notes
Don’t wash mushrooms under running water—use a damp towel to preserve their texture.
Always cook mushrooms in a single layer to avoid steaming.
Adding garlic at the end prevents it from burning and keeps its flavor fresh.
