Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 baking pan.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
3. In a large bowl, cream butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
4. Beat in eggs and vanilla extract until fully combined.
5. Alternately mix in the dry ingredients and milk, stirring just until smooth.
6. Pour half the batter into the prepared pan.
7. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over the batter.
8. Pour the remaining batter on top and gently swirl with a knife.
9. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
10. Let the cake cool completely in the pan.
11. Make the frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth.
12. Add vanilla extract and powdered sugar; beat until creamy.
13. Spread frosting over the cooled cake and sprinkle with cinnamon if desired.
Notes
Make sure the cake is completely cool before frosting to prevent melting.
For a stronger cinnamon punch, add an extra 1/2 tsp to the swirl.
Use room temperature ingredients for the smoothest batter and frosting.
