Description
This roasted asparagus recipe brings out the natural sweetness of the spears while giving them a perfectly crispy finish. It’s a healthy, simple side dish that complements everything from grilled meat to pasta. Quick to make and full of flavor, it’s a go-to for weeknights or holiday spreads.
Ingredients
1 bunch fresh asparagus spears
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves minced garlic
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
1 teaspoon lemon zest or 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
2. Wash and dry the asparagus. Trim off the woody bottom inch of each stalk.
3. In a large mixing bowl, toss asparagus with olive oil, garlic, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Spread the asparagus out in a single layer.
5. Roast for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway through. The tips should be crisp and lightly browned.
6. Remove from the oven and finish with lemon zest or a squeeze of lemon juice if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
Dry your asparagus completely before seasoning to ensure it roasts instead of steams.
Don’t overcrowd the baking sheet—give each spear space.
Add fresh lemon juice *after* roasting to maintain bright flavor.
