Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 green bell pepper, diced

1 red bell pepper, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp ketchup

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1 cup beef broth

1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)

4 slices provolone or American cheese

4 hamburger buns or hoagie rolls

1 tbsp butter (for toasting buns)


Instructions

  1. Sauté the Vegetables: In a large skillet over medium heat, add a drizzle of oil and sauté the chopped onions and bell peppers until soft and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet and break it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Add Seasoning and Sauce: Stir in Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, salt, and black pepper. Pour in the beef broth and mix well. If a thicker sauce is desired, dissolve cornstarch in 2 tablespoons of water and stir it in. Let simmer for 3-5 minutes.
  4. Melt the Cheese: Reduce heat to low, place the cheese slices on top of the beef mixture, cover, and let melt for 1-2 minutes. Stir to combine.
