Sliced smoked sausage is seared until golden and combined with fluffy rice cooked in a mouthwatering mix of BBQ sauce, broth, garlic, and soy sauce—all in one skillet for minimal cleanup.
Ingredients
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 lb (450g) smoked sausage, sliced into rounds
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup long grain white rice
2 1/4 cups chicken broth
1/2 cup BBQ sauce
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional: chopped green onions or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add sausage slices and sear for 2–3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, sauté chopped onion until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Stir in uncooked rice and toast for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Add chicken broth, BBQ sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
- Return sausage to the pan. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18–20 minutes until rice is tender.
- Turn off heat and let sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork.
- Garnish with green onions or parsley if desired.
