Description

This One-Pan Sweet and Tangy BBQ Sausage Rice is a bold and comforting dish that delivers a perfect balance of smoky, savory, and sweet flavors. Sliced smoked sausage is seared until golden and combined with fluffy rice cooked in a mouthwatering mix of BBQ sauce, broth, garlic, and soy sauce—all in one skillet for minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 lb (450g) smoked sausage, sliced into rounds

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup long grain white rice

2 1/4 cups chicken broth

1/2 cup BBQ sauce

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: chopped green onions or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add sausage slices and sear for 2–3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, sauté chopped onion until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  4. Stir in uncooked rice and toast for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Add chicken broth, BBQ sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  6. Return sausage to the pan. Bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18–20 minutes until rice is tender.
  8. Turn off heat and let sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork.
  9. Garnish with green onions or parsley if desired.
