Maggiano’s Style Lasagna

  • Author: Olivia McKenney
  • Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Description

This Maggiano’s Style Lasagna is a hearty, cheesy, and comforting Italian-American classic made with savory layers of seasoned meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and melted mozzarella. It’s perfect for feeding a crowd or meal-prepping in advance. Every bite offers a satisfying mix of textures and bold flavors, just like your favorite restaurant version—but made in your own kitchen.

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (85/15)

1/2 pound mild Italian sausage

1 small yellow onion, finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

28 ounces crushed tomatoes

2 tablespoons tomato paste

2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

1/4 cup chopped fresh basil

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

15 ounces ricotta cheese

1 large egg

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning

12 lasagna noodles, cooked or oven-ready

3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (for topping)

Instructions

1. Brown the ground beef and Italian sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain excess fat if needed.

2. Add chopped onion and sauté until soft. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.

3. Mix in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20–25 minutes until thickened.

4. In a bowl, combine ricotta, egg, Parmesan, salt, and Italian seasoning. Stir well until creamy and smooth.

5. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Start with a layer of meat sauce, then noodles, then ricotta mixture, and mozzarella. Repeat layers until full, finishing with meat sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan on top.

6. Cover with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until bubbly and golden.

7. Let rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing to help layers set. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Letting the lasagna rest before slicing is key to clean layers and easier serving.

Using freshly shredded mozzarella will give you better melt and texture than pre-shredded.

For extra richness, stir a spoonful of butter into the meat sauce before layering.
