Description

These classic Italian Butter Cookies are rich, tender, and delicately sweet—perfect for holidays, gifts, or simply enjoying with your favorite cup of coffee. With their signature ridges, chocolate-dipped ends, and festive sprinkles, they’re a bakery-style cookie you can easily recreate at home.

Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

3/4 cup powdered sugar

2 large egg yolks

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (for dipping)

3 tablespoons sprinkles or nonpareils (for decoration)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.

3. Add egg yolks and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined.

4. Gradually mix in the flour and salt. Stir until a soft, thick dough forms.

5. Spoon dough into a piping bag fitted with a large open star tip (Wilton 6B recommended).

6. Pipe 2-inch strips of dough onto prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart.

7. Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Let cool on baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.

8. Once cookies are completely cool, melt chocolate chips using a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl.

9. Dip one end of each cookie in chocolate, place on parchment, and top with sprinkles.

10. Let chocolate set before storing or serving.

Notes

Always use room temperature butter for smooth creaming.

If the dough is too stiff to pipe, let it sit or add 1 tablespoon of milk.

Do not overbake—light golden edges ensure a soft, buttery texture.
