Description
This Homemade Eggnog Jam is a creamy, custard-like spread that captures the cozy flavors of classic holiday eggnog. Made with rich egg yolks, warm spices, and a splash of rum (optional), it’s perfect for gifting or spreading over toast, pancakes, and baked goods all season long.
Ingredients
6 large egg yolks
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 cup whole milk
3/4 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon rum extract (or 1 tablespoon real rum, optional)
Instructions
1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, and milk until smooth.
2. Set the pan over medium heat and whisk constantly until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble slightly.
3. Reduce heat to low. Add heavy cream, butter, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Continue whisking until the butter melts and the jam thickens to a custard-like texture.
4. Stir in rum extract or real rum (if using) and mix well.
5. For an extra-smooth finish, strain the jam through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl.
6. Ladle into clean jars or containers. Let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate. Jam will thicken more as it chills.
Notes
Whisk constantly to avoid curdling the egg yolks during cooking.
Don’t skip the butter — it adds a glossy finish and rich texture.
For gifting, pour into small jars and decorate with twine or holiday labels.
