Description
Golden, crispy fried apple pies filled with warm cinnamon-spiced apples and sealed in a flaky crust, then drizzled with caramel. A cozy, nostalgic dessert perfect for holidays, gatherings, or a simple comfort-food craving.
Ingredients
2 cups peeled, cored, and diced apples
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 package pie dough or biscuit dough (store-bought or homemade)
Vegetable oil for frying (enough to fill skillet or fryer 2 inches deep)
1 egg (for egg wash)
1/2 cup caramel sauce (optional)
Pinch of sea salt (optional for garnish)
Instructions
1. Peel, core, and dice the apples.
2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add apples, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
3. Cook until apples are tender and syrupy, about 8–10 minutes. Let filling cool completely.
4. Roll out pie dough on a lightly floured surface and cut into 4 to 5-inch circles.
5. Add cooled apple filling to the center of each circle.
6. Brush edges with egg wash, fold into a half-moon shape, and seal with a fork.
7. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a heavy-bottomed skillet or deep fryer.
8. Fry pies in small batches, 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
9. Remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper towel-lined wire rack.
10. Drizzle with caramel sauce and sprinkle with sea salt if desired. Serve warm.
Notes
Let the filling cool completely before sealing to prevent soggy dough.
Keep oil temperature steady to avoid greasy or burnt pies.
Use a fork to crimp the edges tightly to prevent leaks during frying.
