Description
These Fluffy Eggnog Scones are the perfect balance of festive flavor and cozy comfort. Rich eggnog makes the dough ultra-soft, while nutmeg adds a warm, seasonal spice. With a tender crumb, golden edges, and a sweet vanilla glaze, they’re perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a winter dessert.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup eggnog
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
2 to 3 tablespoons eggnog (for glaze)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
3. Cut cold butter into the dry ingredients using a pastry cutter or fork until it resembles coarse crumbs.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, eggnog, and vanilla.
5. Add wet mixture to dry ingredients and stir just until a sticky dough forms.
6. Turn dough onto a floured surface, pat into an 8-inch circle, about 1 inch thick.
7. Cut into 8 equal wedges using a sharp knife or bench scraper.
8. Place wedges on baking sheet. Optional: brush tops with eggnog.
9. Bake for 18–20 minutes, until golden brown and firm.
10. Let scones cool on a rack. Whisk powdered sugar with eggnog and drizzle over the warm scones.
Notes
Use cold butter straight from the fridge—it’s key to flaky texture.
Do not overwork the dough; mix just until combined to avoid tough scones.
Glaze while warm but not hot, so it sets without melting completely.
