Easy Apple Pie

Easy Apple Pie

  • Author: Olivia McKenney

Description

This Easy Apple Pie is a cozy classic filled with tender cinnamon-spiced apples wrapped in a flaky golden crust. With a balanced mix of sweet and tart flavors, this pie is as perfect for holiday gatherings as it is for everyday dessert cravings.

Ingredients

6 cups sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

2 tablespoons cornstarch or all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon butter (cut into small pieces)

2 pie crusts (homemade or store-bought)

1 egg (beaten for egg wash)

Instructions

1. Peel, core, and slice the apples evenly. Place them in a large mixing bowl and toss with lemon juice.

2. Add granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch (or flour) to the apples. Stir until all slices are evenly coated.

3. Roll out one pie crust and place it into a 9-inch pie dish. Fill with the apple mixture, mounding slightly in the center. Dot the top with butter.

4. Roll out the second pie crust and place over the filling (as a full top or lattice). Crimp the edges to seal.

5. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg and sprinkle lightly with sugar for a golden finish.

6. Bake in a preheated 375°F (190°C) oven for 50–60 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

7. Cool the pie on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before slicing.

Notes

Use a pie shield or foil to prevent the crust edges from overbrowning.

Let the pie cool fully to allow the filling to set and avoid runniness.

For extra richness, use a mix of tart and sweet apples like Granny Smith and Fuji.
