Description
These Cream Cheese Poppers are crisp on the outside and irresistibly creamy on the inside. Made with fluffy whipped cream cheese and herbs, coated in a light batter, and fried until golden, they’re the perfect crowd-pleasing appetizer or snack.
Ingredients
8 oz cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons chopped green onions
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 large egg
1/2 cup milk
Oil for frying (canola or vegetable)
Instructions
1. Beat cream cheese in a medium bowl until smooth and fluffy.
2. Stir in chopped green onions, garlic powder, and salt until evenly combined.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
4. Add the egg and milk to the dry ingredients, mixing until a thick batter forms.
5. Scoop small portions of the cream cheese mixture and roll into balls. Chill briefly to firm up.
6. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
7. Dip each cheese ball into the batter, ensuring full coverage.
8. Carefully drop into hot oil and fry in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
9. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels or a cooling rack.
10. Serve hot with dipping sauce or enjoy as-is!
Notes
Chill the cream cheese balls before dipping in batter to keep their shape while frying.
Ensure your oil maintains a steady 350°F to prevent greasy poppers.
For extra flavor, add finely diced jalapeños or bacon bits to the cream cheese filling.
