Description
Golden, flaky pastry spiraled with savory sausage and melty cheese—these Cheesy Puff Pastry Sausage Pinwheels are a must-make for parties, brunches, or cozy nights in. With minimal ingredients and a rich, comforting flavor, they’re sure to become a go-to favorite.
Ingredients
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
1/2 pound ground sausage (mild or spicy), cooked and drained
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
1. Brown the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain excess fat and let cool slightly.
2. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface to smooth the thickness.
3. Evenly spread the cooked sausage over the pastry. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the top.
4. Carefully roll the puff pastry into a tight log, starting from the long edge. Slice into 1/2-inch pinwheels using a sharp knife.
5. Arrange pinwheels on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
6. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15–18 minutes or until golden and puffed.
7. Sprinkle parsley on top before serving, if using. Serve warm.
Notes
For crispier pinwheels, ensure your sausage mixture is fully cooled and drained before adding to the pastry.
Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to avoid flattening the roll when slicing.
For a vegetarian version, swap sausage with seasoned mushrooms and onions.
