Ingredients
1 large French bread loaf
1 pound ground beef
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
4 tablespoons butter, softened
1 cup shredded provolone cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Slice off the top of the French bread loaf and hollow out some of the inside, creating a bread boat.
3. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef.
4. Add chopped onions and sauté until softened and translucent.
5. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 additional minute.
6. Remove from heat and stir in ½ cup of provolone and ½ cup of mozzarella until melted and combined.
7. In a small bowl, mix softened butter with minced garlic and parsley.
8. Brush the garlic butter mixture inside and outside the bread loaf.
9. Fill the bread with the cheesy beef mixture and top with the remaining cheese.
10. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly.
11. Broil for 2–3 minutes for a golden top, if desired.
12. Let cool slightly before slicing. Garnish with parsley if using.
Notes
Use fresh-grated cheese for better melting and texture.
Pre-toast the bread for 5 minutes before adding the filling to help prevent sogginess.
Swap ground beef for thinly sliced steak if preferred for a more authentic cheesesteak flavor.
