Description
This Best Stuffing Recipe for Thanksgiving is golden and crispy on top, tender in the center, and full of savory, herb-infused flavor. With sautéed veggies, fresh and dried herbs, and buttery goodness soaked into every cube of bread, it’s the perfect side dish to complete your holiday table.
Ingredients
10 cups day-old bread cubes
1 cup unsalted butter
1 large yellow onion, diced
1 ½ cups chopped celery
4 cloves garlic, minced
¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped
1 teaspoon dried thyme
½ teaspoon dried rosemary
2 ½ cups chicken or vegetable broth
2 large eggs
1 ½ teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
1. Cut the bread into 1-inch cubes and let it sit out overnight, or bake at 250°F for 30 minutes until dry and crisp.
2. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and celery; cook for 8–10 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic, parsley, sage, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1–2 more minutes.
3. Place dried bread cubes in a large mixing bowl. Pour the cooked vegetable mixture over the bread and toss well.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs with broth. Pour over bread mixture and gently stir to combine without over-soaking.
5. Transfer stuffing into a buttered 9×13″ baking dish. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
6. Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until golden on top.
7. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Letting the bread cubes dry overnight gives the best texture—don’t skip it!
Fresh herbs give unbeatable flavor, but dried ones can substitute in a pinch.
For added richness, mix in cooked sausage, apples, or mushrooms.
