Description
This Best Homemade Alfredo Sauce is ultra-creamy, rich, and comes together in under 20 minutes. Made with butter, garlic, heavy cream, and freshly grated Parmesan, it’s the ultimate comfort sauce perfect for pasta, vegetables, or even as a decadent dip.
Ingredients
½ cup unsalted butter
2 cups heavy cream
3 garlic cloves minced
1½ cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Salt to taste
Black pepper to taste
Pinch ground nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter until fully liquid but not browned.
2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
3. Slowly pour in the heavy cream while whisking to combine.
4. Let the mixture simmer for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally. Do not let it boil.
5. Reduce heat to low. Gradually whisk in the Parmesan until melted and smooth.
6. Add salt, black pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg if desired. Taste and adjust seasonings.
7. Continue whisking until the sauce thickens to your liking.
8. Serve immediately over hot pasta, veggies, or your favorite protein.
Notes
Always use freshly grated Parmesan—not pre-shredded—for best texture and flavor.
Keep heat low once cheese is added to prevent the sauce from breaking or becoming grainy.
If reheating, add a splash of cream or milk and stir constantly over low heat.
